A Season of New

Curator’s Note: This piece was first written in January 2023, during the early days of my beta blog. I’ve brought it here as part of my archive — a reminder of the season I was in, and the muse I was becoming.

In speaking with my personal trainer and sharing some life updates earlier this week, she brought up a term that truly stuck with me - "a season of NEW." Currently, so many things in my life are requiring a different version of myself. God is calling me to be a more fervent and frequent follower. At work, a promotion requires a manager and more responsible leader. Relationships, both platonic and romantic, are requiring a more emotionally-intelligent and boundary-aware version of myself. The gym, and my new trainer, require consistency and discipline. The highest version of myself is requiring all of these things and more- like being smarter with my money, learning more about investing and maybe even another language, taking to my journal more often, reading more and stretching daily. Shoot, I even want to dive back into some of those little fun self-care things in between, like rebuilding and purging my wardrobe, refreshing my make-up and D-I-Y skills, or growing my grown and sexy perfume collection. 2024 is an 8 year. This is means the themesof the year are abundance, determination and prosperity, as well as growth, financial wealth, and expansion in many different aspects of life. In recent news, the latest breakdown of the year's astrology reminds us that when thinking of an 8 year, "think of building, doing and creating. Think of unlocking your personal power. Think persistence and enjoying the fight. This is a year not to dream, but to make magic happen." (Today, 2023) Un-coincidentally enough, I bought a planner with the tagline "Make Time to Make Magic Happen." The tarot reader Blue June shared that the difference between this year and the last was that the 7 year had an emphasis on introspection and curiosity. Whereas, 8 year is showing us the fruits of the labor, of our inner work, and projecting it outward.

(Today, 2023) To find out what this means to you, what are some areas of newness that you are being called to in life? What do you hope to renew? So, in the words of Ms Erykah Badu-"write it down on real paper with a real pencil. And watch shit get real."
